The Raj Books
The Raj Books is a single proprietor publishing company registered in Georgia and was created to introduce the series of books that I intend to write about the British experience in India.
The first book I wrote was:
Boarding School Boy, which was self-published through iUniverse in 2011 and was available in hard cover, soft cover and as an eBook.
All forms of the book were available for a few years through the standard retail and on-line marketing channels, such as Amazon, Barnes and Noble, Apple iTunes, etc.
It is currently out of hard copy print and only available now as an ebook through Amazon.com. You can find out more about it by clicking on the navigation tab at the top of this page.
My second book:
The Company and the Crown, is chronologically the first in the Raj Book series. You can find out more about this book by clicking on the appropriate tab in the navigation bar at the top of the page. The book has just been published by A-Argus Books and you can read all about it by clicking on the appropriate tab in the navigation bar on top.
The next book in the series is planned to be called:-
Ribbons of Steel, which will written in honor of all the railway people that I knew while growing up in India who built the railways and ran it. These include a long line of my relatives, ancestors and family friends who spent their lives on the railways. The book is in its early stages - only a few chapters have been written. I hope to finish it within two years.
The final book in the series is planned to be called:-
The Death of the Raj, and will cover the decades of the 1940s, '50s, and '60s, and will be written from the perspective of the Anglo Indian descendants of the British and other European colonists, who began to leave India by the boatload after India achieved independence in 1947. It was a very sad time for our community as we dispersed to various parts of the British Commonwealth, lost our identity as a people, and were absorbed by the kindness and welcome extended to us by the countries that took us in. It was the death of an era that had lasted for two hundred years, and the end of a grand way of life.
There may be more books in the same genre, but there are no definite plans for any of them yet.
Hi! That's me at the side.
I left India as a young man after graduating from college in 1966, with bachelors degrees in Science (Physics, Math) and Electrical Engineering, to immigrate to the United States. My fiancee, Marie Renny followed in 1968; we married in
the USA, had four children, and now live in Atlanta, GA. We have four grown children and three grandsons to carry on the next generation. I spent my entire career in marketing data processing and office systems, primarily in two companies, IBM and Xerox, and retired in 2004. I began writing in retirement and have completed two books:
- Boarding School Boy, which was self-published in 2011
- The Company and The Crown, which has just been published by A-Argus Books.
Both books draw on my life in India and they are intended to open a window into life in the time of The Raj. I plan to write a series of historical fiction novels to cover the entire experience of the British in India, from the birth of The Raj, which is addressed in The Company and The Crown, to Indian Independence in 1947, when the British left and all their descendants who had settled in the subcontinent during the two hundred years of British presence, emigrated from the land of their birth to seek their fortunes in other English speaking countries of the Commonwealth and the world.
